Wedding Invitation Reject

My wife and I rejected a number of different photos for our wedding invitation, but I did like some of them. This was a picture of us that happened to include a cruise ship that was pulling into the harbor at Victoria, British Columbia.

Mountain Panorama

This was an attempt at stitching photos together using the Canon software that came with my Canon S50 point and shoot camera. That is why this photo is so wide. The photo is from a scramble I did at Canmore, Alberta.

Cheryl At Dusk

I snapped a few more photos of Cheryl when we were trying to get a photo for our wedding invitation. I like this show. I took it on my Canon S50 point and shoot.

Storm Troopers

I couldn't pass up this opportunity. There were a half dozen storm troopers walking around West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta to promote Star Wars Night at the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. I decided to get a photo with them. They even had microphones in their suit to make their voices sound like the ones in Star Wars. I was imagining that they would be a bit taller however.

Well, I am still looking for a guitar for Frets on Fire. For anyone that knows me, I have to get something for a deal and I have had a hard time finding a deal for a Frets On Fire guitar.

I was able to get Frets On Fire working over a week ago. It is a free version of Guitar Hero that lets you play all the regular songs from the game plus more. It is a cool little software program that is a bit buggy.

Anyhow, I have been trying to get a guitar controller for it. I have read a number of articles and because Frets On Fire will let you map the actions to any controller, you are able to use any of the guitar controllers from the console to play it. In addition, there are people who have built their own guitars from scratch or used children's toy guitars and rewired them.

eBay

I have been hunting for guitars on eBay and it seems that these items are still a bit too hot to find a good deal. The cheapest guitar controller I can find is a PS2 wireless guitar, which comes to around $50 including shipping to get it to Canada. For the Playstation controllers, I would still need a $10 Playstation to USB converter. This brings my cost in at $60.

My base price to work with is $60, which is the cost for a brand new wireless X-Box guitar at Best Buy. The wireless PS2 guitar is just over $70 at Best Buy as well. I was hoping to shoot for $40 and under, but it does not look like it will happen.

Toy Guitar

I was in Wal-mart on the weekend in Edmonton and there were two guitars that looked like they would work. The one was a Hannah Montana guitar. It was $30 however and I was expecting the $9.99 special before I started ripping it apart to make my own.

The other guitar was $20 and looked decent except that there was no pick button. It said it had a motion sensor that could detect a strumming action. This worried me a bit as to how accurate or reliable this would be on the harder Frets on Fire songs.

What's Next

I am going to bide my time for a bit. I will keep an eye on the eBay auctions and try to sneak in on an auction with no one or very few people bidding.

Shipping is also the killer so I will look for local auctions and the Buy 'n' Sell for anyone getting rid of there copy of Guitar Hero. Unfortunately, it is such a hot item that people are selling it for more than retail right now.

Wedding Invitation Reject

Another rejected photo for our wedding invite, but I still like it. The romantic semi-silhouette shot. This was from my Canon S50 again.

Ho Chi Minh City Ferris Wheel

During my trip to south east asia in 2004, I went to a large park in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It was pretty neat and had a large ferris wheel that was all lit up at night. Taken on my Canon S50 again.

I am getting closer to earning my $100 on MetaCafe. You have to produce your own video and reach at least 20,000 viewers while maintaining at least a 3 star rating.

This was shot by my brother-in-law and I in 2006 at the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. This woman wanted a close-up photograph and got a bit too close for comfort. You can't hear it in the video, but their are guides screaming at her to get away.

Varadero Sunrise

This was the sunrise from our room at the Princesa del Mar in Varadero, Cuba. Cheryl and I were there for our honeymoon in April of 2005. The sunrises were awesome, when we were awake to see them. I took this on my Canon S50 point and shoot camera.

Tripod Shot In Varadero

I had taken my handy little Optex tripod with me on our honeymoon to Varadero, Cuba. This was a shot using my Canon S50 point and shoot camera. I had set it to no flash and the exposure last a few seconds. The photo turned out awesome and this is exactly how it looked in the evening.

We were staying at the Princesa del Mar (a Sandals resort at that time).
