Making The Most of Your Space
I previously wrote about vacation property and how it is the next big step after you own a home (or so it seems).
Last year, a friend of mine invited my wife and I to a lake property in British Columbia, Canada. It was fantastic. It was basically a full house, but had the vacation, lake home feeling to it.
What I was really impressed with was, even though it was a normal sized house, the layout was such that you could entertain a lot of people. With vacation property that is a very important feature.
The room I stayed in was quite large. It had two bunk beds in each corner that featured a double bed on the bottom and a twin sized bed on the top. The room would fit 6 people sleeping and still felt quite spacious. Two rooms like that in the house would hold 12 people. That sounds crammed, but for children and teenagers that will suit them just fine.
I received a request to look at a site and it reminded me of this house at the lake. I slept in a bunk bed while I was there. There are many different kinds of bunk beds you can choose from for a reasonable price. Not only is it functional for vacation property, but for those of us living in a high cost of living city it can be very helpful when you are living in a smaller home and have children.
In 2005, my wife an I were on a tour of the Galapagos Islands in South America. We were on a boat for the duration of the tour and they used bunk beds in a lot of the cabins as well. What a great use of space. If I ever had a sailboat that would be a fantastic way to squeeze more sleeping space in.
